Mor Dame Gueye

My name is Mor Dame Gueye. I was born and raised in Senegal, and I first came to the United States when I was 26 years old. Now that I am over 50, I realize that I have spent nearly half of my life in New York.
Growing up in a country where the majority of people are Muslim and then spending many years living in a Western society has led me to reflect deeply on religion and identity. It has raised an important question in my mind: What does it truly mean to be a Muslim?
Is being Muslim simply a matter of calling yourself one, or is it defined by how you live, act, and treat others?
Having experienced both cultures, I have often wondered where the real essence of Islam lies in identity, in belief, in practice, or perhaps in a combination of all three

Through reading and studying the Quran on my own, I reached a profound realization.

Instead of simply following a faith that I had inherited, I began to understand its message for myself. As I reflected on its teachings, I developed a deeper and more personal relationship with the Creator.

In many ways, I felt like a new Muslim—not because I had changed my religion, but because I
had discovered a renewed understanding of my faith and its purpose in my life.

This transformation inspired me to write this book. I wanted to share my journey, my reflections, and the insights I gained through my search for truth and nderstanding. My hope is that readers will be encouraged to explore their own relationship with God and to seek knowledge with an open heart and mind.

In addition to my spiritual journey, I have always had a passion for learning and personal achievement. Throughout my life, I have earned several certifications in areas such as Construction
Management, Human Rights Advocacy, and Public Health Administration, among others. Each field of study has expanded my perspective and deepened my commitment to serving others.

I believe that learning should never stop. Lifelong education is essential for personal growth and for becoming a better contributor to society. By continually seeking knowledge, we strengthen
our minds, broaden our understanding of the world, and improve our ability to serve our communities. A commitment to learning is, in my view, one of the most powerful ways to grow as
individuals and to leave a positive impact on the lives of others.
